Female Gamemasters?

Dethklok

First Post
Are there any women here who run games? Or, has anyone ever played in a game run by a female GM?

I ask because I have never even heard of a woman who ran a roleplaying game. World of Darkness, Cthulhu, D&D in its various permutations, everything I've ever played was always run either by myself or some other guy. The very closest I've come to this is talking to a female friend who recalls that, growing up, her mother played the role of Zargon in Heroquest with her and her all-female friends.

Not a woman, but I've played in at least a dozen games run by women. D&D, Vampire, Werewolf, BESM, Feng Shui, Delta Green, Toon...

I'd suggest taking a peek at either a college gaming club or a larger convention. Anyplace that gave you a larger cross section of geekdom would probably do it.

Not a woman myself, but I've played numerous times in games run by one.

Our table top group (4e) is curretnly run by a friend and colleague.

My former girlfriend treated us to a Pendraagon campaign.

My wife ran a Das Schwarze Auge campaign and a single 3e adventure.

My gaming environment seems to be a bit unusual, though, as women provide one to two thirds of the players in nearly all groups I played with.

One of the best one-shots I have played, and the best campaign I have played, were GMed by my wife.
My sister also GMs sometimes. One of our female friends used to run games when we were younger.

In my experience, female GMs are somewhat rarer than male ones, but they definitely exist and they are at least as good.
On the other hand, I play with more women than typical, so my observations may be biased a little.

I'm not a woman, but one of the players in my D&D group is also a GM for 'Das Schwarze Auge' (I seem to see a pattern evolving here...). She's also been GM in an all-female roleplaying group, which apparently results in a much different play experience than with mixed groups. She even wrote her Master's degree about roleplaying games!

Back in the mid-1980s my mother and sister ran a couple of sessions of Het Oog de Meesters. Which is the Dutch translation of, yes you guessed is, Das Schwarze Auge ...

There are two women in my group right now. One has run two D&D campaigns (one 3.5, one 4th), while the other has run a few one-shots. They're both quite good.

I've also played in one or two games at PAX run by female DMs.
