I started in 1982. Man, 31 years...and I still have that books from the first box I bought (D&D Expert Set, Moldvay revision)...though the box and dice are long gone.

My books are long gone from my original 83 red box, but I still have 2 crayon colored d10s (one red, one blue) from the set. The last remnants of my gaming past lol

I started in the fall of 1982. I was a freshman in high school, and I had fallen in with fellow fans of fantasy and science fiction, early video games, and heavy metal.

I got the D&D Boxed Set and the Lord of the Rings books that Christmas, and I haven't stopped since then!

I started in '78 or '79, but I haven't actually played for several years. I checked the 31-35 'box', but it may fall somewhere in the 26-30 range. But I'm still a gamer!

Started in 80 as well, though I was only 6 at the time. Still have the red box books, my two original sets of crayon-ed in dice (one yellow and one blue), my first two characters, and the now crushed flat box floating around my parent's house somewhere. The plastic bag and Dixie cup I used to keep my set of cut-out chits in has long since vanished however.

I started in '75 or '76, no longer quite sure which. My older brother still has our original basic rulebook and dungeon geomorphs, although we started with a set of handwritten rules he cribbed from the original 3 book set a friend owned; it took us several months to get a "real" set of rules!
