RPGS in the news more these days?

Well, that was fun

Is it just me, or is our hobby hitting major news outlets a lot more than it used to?

If so, that can only be great news. I keep seeing articles about D&D Next, Numenera, 13th Age, and about Kickstarters like Red Aegis or Kobold Press' recent endeavour on really big, huge sites - Forbes, iO9, AICN, MTV, and so on.

I'm sure that wasn't the case a couple of years ago. Occasionally, perhaps, but not nearly with the frequency it happens now. I wonder why that is?

All those satanic rituals we performed in the early 80's are finally paying off!

Well, IO9 is a sci-fi fandom site, so you'd expect RPGs to be featured there.

For the rest, well, web-delivered news items are not competing for space or time. It pays someplace like Forbes to have as many stories as they can, so that they'll have *something* that appeals to you. And search engines make it reasonably likely that, if you're looking for news, you'll find it.

I think as a whole our interests are becoming more main stream. We're seeing more references not only in the news but in other media streams as well. If the Heroes of Cosplay succeeds I wonder how long before we see a show about LARPing, perhaps Vampire the Requiem or similar vein.

I think the mainstream as a whole is more interested in fantasy and superheroes and the like, and RPGS are following on that interest.
