The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Trailer

I didn't find it boring or long when it was read aloud to me in my childhood. Nor do I find it so when I read it aloud in my adulthood. But I do tend to skip the elf-singing.

Me neither. I loved it when I was a kid.

It is an interesting read if you're into fantasy literature "archeology" or if you want to know more about Tolkien's universe, but it is not a good read for those who just want a good book.

Ah, well, "good" is an entirely subjective thing, now isn't it?

Sure but there also happens to be a lot of crossover. For example, both goldo and I think The Hobbit is pretty bad and would, therefore, never recommend anyone read it. Otoh, he recently recommended Bukowski to me - something for which I am grateful as I happen to enjoy the man's work as well now that I've found it. So, basically, don't be too quick to dismiss someone calling a book bad. It may well be.

My daughter's 7 and just the right age for me to read the Hobbit to. I'll let her see all the films when all 3 are done. However, I think exposing her to the books before the films is the best way to introduce her to Tolkien.
