D&D 5E Kender are a core race?

Sadly, no monkey, and they're not combined. But still...

I don't think kender should be a core race, they're too setting specific and i'd rather see it appear in a Dragonlance-oriented product than the PHB for instance.

The description of Kenders in the 3rd Ed. Dragonlance campaign setting makes you want to gauge your own eyes out.
It's an insult to brains. It pretty much tells players to annoy the other players as much as possible and ruin the game for everyone else in every concievable way.

How do you think the text in the 5e version compares? It looks to me like it's written to facilitate the putative Kender working as a member of the party.

I've never actually seen someone play a Kender, mind, so my prejudices may not be fully formed - but I quite liked the write-up in the playtest. So long as I can avoid the sorts of players that seem to have caused all this loathing, I think I'll continue to like it ;-)

Never got it, for obvious reasons. But IIRC, and I'm pretty sure that I do, the article in Dragon stated specifically that not only should they be played that way, but the other characters couldn't do anything about it because they were so cute, or somesuch nonsense! Thus my oath to kill them on sight.

Speaking of "insult to brains," you might want to look up the word "gauge " there, my German friend.
Hey, we knew what she ment. Is your German better? I'd hate for anyone to try reading anything I wrote in another language. Heck, I have enough trouble with English myself! ;)

You put a space between a word and an ending quotation mark! DON'T THEY TEACH PROPER GRAMMAR IN VAN NUYS?! :)

Anyway, she's right. The last official kender writeup was basically "steal everyone's stuff, blurt out their secrets, cry like a child when you get called on your crap (because apparently, even stone-cold killers get all weepy when kender cry), and only truly wise people know that kender are super awesome (if you don't think so, you ain't wise)."

Just reading that writeup annoys the ever-living crap out of me, and dealing with a player that actually followed it and played the kender as the writers intended? I shudder to think.

I could MAYBE live with the advice to play the worst character ever ruining others fun through childish behavior if it came with "Everyone hates this race and even if you are the best behaved one in the world some people may try to kill you because they are prejudice"

I mean can you imagine any Kender being allowed to walk around a bazar? How could a Kender ever be a tradesman he doesn't understand property?

Infact why can't you teach a Kender "This is mine don't touch" or "Now is not the time to talk little one now is the time to listen"
