D&D 5E Warlock's Revealed in Livestream

OK I asked him your questions, and he almost immediately replied.

1) Q: You mentioned invocations are always based on abilities or traits. What does this mean?

A: some of them (not all) improve other abilities. One of mine boosted damage for eldritch blast.

2) Q: Since Warlocks regain spells after a short rest, how does multiclassing with mage work?

A: two separate pools of magic - the you'd have X wizard slots, Y warlock ones, get warlock ones back with short rest

Ah, so maybe we're looking at invocations taking one of your encounter-spells and turning it into an at-will? Interesting! As long as I can summon swarms of bugs and turn invisible at-will, I think I'll be happy. ;)

And I also like the multiclassing response. Real simple. A bit more to track, but that's likely going to come along with any multiclass. Nifty!

Hmmmmmm......

So a Wizard/Warlock would essentially be a caster who always has spells, in one way shape or form, available. I could see dishing out all my warlock spells first, then saving the Wizard ones for when you really need them.

That was nice, I think that I like the concept of the warlock but I'll probably ban it from my games as a PC class, either that or making it the only arcane class.

The Warlock mechanics seem pretty cool as a "quick and easy path" to magic, but previous edition baggage has led to some pretty inelegant design.

Eldritch Blast still seems weird for an iconic Warlock feature (why not just put magic missile and ray of frost on their spell list?), and the choice of book/blade/chain doesn't make much sense after the more important choice of patron (it's not like Clerics get to choose blaster/basher three levels after they choose their domain).

It's not how I would have done it if I were making a new game from scratch. I don't know much about the Warlock(s); do fans of the hexblade/binder/whatever find this a good compromise?

By higher levels, do you mean level 20?
I should think it's the same table as the half casters (Bard, etc.) from the last packet.

Why?
Any specific reason you would ban it, sight unseen, especially if you like it?

Mainly storywise, it just add headaches to my game, I like heroic fantasy, having a warlock that is bind to the nine hells or something won't easily fit, otoh In a game dedicated to it and built around the warlock can be a very very nice option.

Why are the warlock spells short rest over lng rest.

Would it not be easier to make them long rest with the bard progression and then hand out invocations? Makes mutliclassing easier. Why go the hard route?

I would hope, like 4E, your Warlock can have power sources/binding with nicer and fluffier and more heroic things than just the Hells. Like Fae or whatever, not that it worries me, as we generally play S&S heroes, not heroic ones!

I seem to have a predilection for rubbish classes, loving the Warlock from 3E and Monks and Bards from the older editions. So anything that brings those flumphs of classes to useful life is good for me.

Now where is the gnome illusionist? ;)
