The Walking Dead 4.11 "Claimed" (spoiler alert)

Meh. I'm not a fan of the split party storytelling.

.

I have a feeling you are stuck with it for at least two or three more episodes.

I don't have an issue with the split party storytelling, that stuff is fine for me. I might be complaining though if each episode followed just one group. The next one looks like it may be a Daryl episode, at least the preview only showed clips of the Daryl situation. And I am not really looking for to that if this is the case (also the idea of another "trapped in the house surrounded by zombies" is a bit dull to me after decades of zombie movies).

This episode I liked the Rick scenes. I was starting to get a bit bored when that complication hit so it felt right to me and held my interest. I enjoyed the growing bond between Carl and Michonne.

I haven't read the comics and one thing I noticed right away is these new guys look like comic book characters which was a bit jarring to me at first. However I warmed up to Abraham pretty quickly (don't know his story but seems refreshingly sincere and straightforward). I love the idea of a mullet wearing scientist, but the guy playing him seemed to be a bit too hammy (though again, not familiar with the comic character so maybe I am missing something here). Rosita is kind of a blank for me at the moment.

The developments with Glen have been good. I like what they've done with him.

The dynamic between him and abraham seems like it will be interesting to watch. Hopefully Abraham ends up being a proper good guy and not a governor type character.

The guys in the house were intriguing. I think it is important to remind the audience there are a lot of bad people around and zombies are not the only thing to worry about. On the other hand, I have this feeling that they are somehow tied to terminus (the guy got a good look at Rick for a reason, so I just have this feeling he'll be back). While I loved Woodbury and the governor, I don't know that having a sanctuary with something sinister below the surface is something that is needed again. Hopefully whatever terminus is, it is more complex than that, and offers up a textured environment for character development (I know lots of people want to see more travel and running from zombies, but my whole interest in the show is it can show us what happens when the survivors settle down and try to rebuild so I really want to see more of that and less on the road again stuff).

I thought the Rick stealth action was quite good.

The idea of "offbeat genius doctor who supposedly has a cure" seems like kind of a tease to me, since as an audience we pretty much know if they cure this the show is over.

As someone who hasn't read the comic, this was probably the most exciting bit of the show for me (sadly I was hit by some comic spoilers in a review and think I know what they intend with it). When he said that Eugene knows what started all this, to me that was what grabbed me (more than the prospect of a cure...because like you say, they cure the plague the show is over). I was pretty interested in learning how the plague might have started, even if it was only a hazy explanation. That line definitely got my attention.

I have a hard time even believing Eugene's character... He's survived for two years during a zombie apoc and can't even handle an AR even though he's a "genius"? Give me a break. And then the "its classified" line. Who the hell needs a security clearance in an apoc. Ugh, really not liking the turn so far.

And now the new bit about a "sanctuary"... Really, that's like says free candy while sitting in a rape van...

From what Abraham said, they had more people with them until recently, so it's possible Eugene had no reason to learn to shoot as he had a bunch of protectors around, and maybe a limited amount of guns & ammo. Maybe the last time he tried to shoot, Eugene did just as badly, and Abraham made the decision that it's not worth it to teach him to shoot since their ammunition is so limited?

And, they had mention of "Sanctuary" on the radio broadcast when Daryl, Michonne, Tyreese and Bob went to the veterinary college to get antibiotics. SO, they've already dropped a few hints about it.

Eh, broadcasting "Sanctuary" in a post-apoc world just reads as a trap more than anything. Who would broadcast that they have supplies and comforts that could be raided and accept all kinds of people, including bad eggs to join. It would just never work, so its just another trap...

For Eugene, even if the guy had protectors, he should know the basics of how a gun works, even just dry-firing. Preparation would be key in a post-apoc world. I can't see anyone ever going burst or auto against zombies because every round counts.

Maybe Sanctuary is confident enough in their protection/armaments that they don't have to worry about bands of raiders? So far, we've only seen small groups of survivors, many of whom are not all that capable of defending themselves. Woodbury had what, 60 people, and only a handful were experienced fighters.
