D&D 5E D&D Events at GenCon

Based on Twitter comments from Mike and Trevor, they still want to keep it ambiguous.

I'd say that's definitely true given a recent tweet on the wizards handle (probably the one you are referring to):

"Still no spoilers. Though "upcoming" in this case is meant to start now, in context of when the article was released."

So, there you go . . .

My guess, and this is wild speculation, is that they hope to have a 5E product there, but that they can't guarantee that physical goods will have printed and shipped in time. So they remain vague and pass that uncertainty on to us.

Or they just have a tightly developed marketing strategy with a specific launch, and the marketing department won't let them share anything unless it fits within their planned timeline.

Shrug. It could be any of those scenarios as well as others. 'Hey, they aren't announcing it! It might not be ready!' or 'Hey, they are going out of their way to make sure that we understand that they haven't said it won't be released at GenCon. Why would they do that unless they had a big release ready! It's coming out at GenCon!'

I will note that those of us who are internet news geeks (what? me?) are spending a fair bit of time talking and speculating about the lack of information. Buzz? And those of us who aren't (rest of my gaming group for example) aren't paying much attention to the release schedule at all and will be captured by whatever launch on whatever timeline.

And since I'm sharing tweets, here's a fun one from Trevor:

"So many of the #dnd things happening soon! So busy! So vague! Flailing, meeping Beaker is my spirit muppet."

Take that for what you will. But one might interpret it as a sign that waiting is nearly over. And that people like Trevor are going nuts having to keep their mouths shut.

Or . . . we are all doomed!!!!!

One of my favorite parts of the live Q and A was the R&D team visibly cringing when Trevor or Chris would nonchalantly mention a specific product or piece of information that might not have been okayed by marketing.

Agreed. And, for what it is worth... I don't think you hold a "workshop" for a product that has yet to be released. But I could easily be wrong.

EDIT: Forgive my shorthand.
