D&D 5E D&D Events at GenCon

It should be noted that despite Dave Christ saying he had all the descriptions of the events inputed into the gencon database months ago that none of them are showing up in the event database yet. Instead there is just a page posted on the WOTC website with some basic info. This says to me that the descriptions of the events contain more info than they want to release right now. However those events have to go public before May 18 when people start ordering. I'm going to make a wild guess and say that WOTC is preparing a real announcement for next week some time.

I kinda wondered that same thing myself, especially when you consider the tweet from Trevor at WotC suggesting that there will be some DnD things soon.

To be fair they never promised GenCon 2014 and D&DN has not really been in development for much longer (if any) than 2nd or 3rd ed.

Difference was it was announced two and a half years ago and 4E product stopped six months after that. With 1st ed to 2nd ed the PHB for 1st ed was reprinted a year into 2nd eds fun, and 1989 and 2000 you had Dragon/Dungeon supporting the current edition up to the literal month the new one came out. Even Garry took 2 years for 1st ed and he had a place to start from as well.

No, they promised "Summer 2014". Which ends a late September, or about a month after GenCon. They've made a couple of comments to the effect that "we're still on track for Summer".

I agree. I expect a big announcement in the upcoming week too.

Not much info on 5E release yet. The D&D Celebration Ceremony could be use to announce something, but the fact that the D&D seminar refers to 5E as the upcoming new edition and that the play program is still being refered to as D&D Next All-Access Pass could mean it won't be ready for GEN CON. Event page says "And keep checking back here for more information!" though so we'll see...

Secrets of Sokol Keep, Shadow on the Moonsea, Defiance in Plan and Corruption in Kryptgarden sounds like fun adventures!

but the fact that the D&D seminar refers to 5E as the upcoming new edition

I'm on my phone so I can't link, but I believe it's been confirmed on Twitter that the "upcoming" refers to the present time frame, and not the future time frame of GenCon. So there's still the possibility of a GenCon (or sooner) release.

Given how the Digital Initiative played out, I'm not surprised that WotC is playing their cards very close to their chest and keeping a tight rein on the outflow of information.
