I expect the Starter Kit to take a few days... after all some has to scan it first.

How many years did it take for them to explain to their lawyers/senior management that you could actually sell PDFs and it wouldn't increase piracy?
On that basis, I reckon if they started now, they should have approval to use torrents to distribute free material by around 2040....

Yep Blizzard uses torrents to distribute their games. They seem to be doing alright. It's maddening/frusterating that you KNOW they are going to have server problems and still won't put up a torrent to alleviate this. It's like when companies have stress tests and then when a game comes out it's STILL has server issues. Makes me want to shoot myself.

I was not trying to stop anything, just responding to a "totally legal" claim with "except not at all".
He was suggesting WotC do it, not us. Thus the "totally legal".
Of course they won't. They can't easily control version numbers that way. They'd have people downloading all sorts of versions and getting confused.
A piracy minded uploading canadian might put up the Starter Kit before the 3rd, I am sure that would cause heads to explode at WoTC. Whatever distributor in Canada dropped the ball and sent those Starter Sets out early are probably going to get a big black mark from WoTC.

This would be smart if they wanted to avoid server overload, but I think they'd prefer if no one even knew torrents existed, so I don't think they will.
Downside would be that some internet providers block torrenting via port number control (colleges & universities have been doing this) and other methods; so it might end up causing issues. I know Blizzard had to work around similar issues by custom creating a different torrent program (why Blizzard Downloader came into existence IIRC).
That said; those servers are HOOOOSED on the 3rd. wouldn't be surprised if they move Basic onto a completely different server.
