D&D 5E Opening Page of the PHB

On a less ridiculous note, I really like that art. If that's a harbinger of things to come, I shall be highly pleased.

Thaumaturge.

Actually, their gender isn't clear to me.

I also like this piece, both because it evokes Swords & Sorcery as well as Al-Qadim! I also like the co position of what I'm calling a "watercolor burst".

Oh, and to quote Will Ferrill in Anchorman 2: BLAAACK! ;) A good thing IMO, nice to see WotC embracing non-white fantasy heroes in vanilla D&D art right out of the gate.

It looks pretty masculine to me, what with the goatee/moustache. Unless my eyesight is fuzzy from all the excitement.

I love this art. I don't recall seeing blood like this in D&D art before. Am I just crazy?

My internal jury is still out on the light red/dark red color combination in the branding.

WOW!

That... is... AWESOME.

And let me just take this opportunity to give a huge, huge, huuuuuuge thumbs up for starting the Players Handbook off with a non-white male figure.

You know, for a while now, the WotC guys have been talking up the art for this edition, how beautiful the books were, etc. I kinda let it go in one ear and out the other; eye of the, uh, beholder, marketing-speak and all that jazz. But with the release of each piece of art, I'm really seeing why they are so excited.
