D&D 5E DnD5 Xp-table oddity

Sorry if this already been discussed. If there already is a discussion about this subject, please direct me to that thread.

The Xp-table in Basic looks really weird.

Example:
A level 10 character need 21,000 xp more to raise to level 11.
A level 11 character need 15,000 xp more to raise to level 12.
A level 12 character need 20,000 xp more to raise to level 13.

Is there any explanation for this oddity?

Its because 11 is deemed a significant level that moves you from tier 2 to tier 3 and changes how the game plays.

And then you are at that next tier's "level 1". Very good point.

It is correct that the paragon tier begin at level 11:

You may be correct, but I still don't understand why it should affect the xp-table.

Nothing special happens with the xp-table at level 17 when the epic tier begin.

Also: in 4E nothing special happened with the xp-table at level 11 and 21 when you changed tier.
 


It's probably just to get round numbers, nothing more.

"Levels 11+ need to be multiples of 5,000! Because!"

But then why not just make it 90,000?

So weird.

There's also this weird thing in the CR chart where suddenly in Paragon you get two CR levels sharing the same XP value for the purpose of encounter building, but not evenly through the entire block, 10-11, 12-13, 14, 15-16, 17, 18, 19-20. Like... wat? Why not 10, 11, 12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, 19-20?
