D&D 5E Differences between the Alpha and the final

Yeah, I guess 'major' is subjective. I don't expect any overhauls, but balance changes can make a big difference. What could the bard do before? In the alpha the valor bard can increase damage with inspiration.
It can. But it can do it only charisma modifier times per day and when the person uses it they get to add it to one damage roll and it goes away.

The playtest version of the Bard could sing as an action all everyone would get +1d4 damage on all damage rolls until he stopped singing. There was just one poster that was convinced that the old class feature would come back.

I'm just saying that it extremely unlikely.

The rogue and bard Hit a Dice things struck me as weird in the playtest. It was such and easy and obvious change, and WotC talked about how they were doing it, but they never made the two number substitution in the playtest documents.

Yeah, I think you are right.

I am glad for it though, I like the new way better. Singing or playing an instrument in combat has always seemed really dumb to me, even if you use music to cast your spells. Ideally I'd like a bard that plays his spells during rests and then they are activated during the course of the adventure, which would lend itself to buffs and the like. Alpha bard is pretty close, though.

Since most historic castle walls were 1.5 to 8 meters thick it looks like the castles will be able to endure quite a few Meteor Swarms. :)
Except historical castles rarely had solid stone walls, outers of stone, inners of rubble. Rubble would be much more liable to a bit of meteor swarm damage!

Thematurgy can crack glass and singe parchment or cloth in the Alpha, but loses that possible effect in Basic. Not sure why that got nerfed, not exactly over powered.

Probably a lot of wasted time arguing whether cracking potions or singing scrolls ruins them. I know my players would never have shut up about that

I wonder, was it considered too powerful or was the intention to unify the class' resources?

The later I would think, keeping trace of umpteen power pools is annoying.

On a more game breaking note:

When you are reduced to 0 Hit points as a pot plant, you no longer spill dirt everywhere.

Gentlemen, commence your /ragequits now.
