D&D 5E (2014) Druid Flavor Help

So, while i was planning on playing a paladin for my first 5e character our Tyranny of dragons group doesn't need one so instead i will be playing a druid from a forest circle and i'm trying to decide, how could i play my druid differently to make her feel like she is a forest druid vs a swamp or desert or mountain druid. I would love for my group to know im from a forest vs me having to tell them i am

Any thoughts?

make comments about how things compare to the forest or the trees or animals of the forest (i.e. don't start talking about the mountain lion, but rather talk about wolves and bears).

only wildshape in to animals that are native to the forest

speak in metaphors/similes that are about woods ("he is persistent like fungus on a redwood")

when given an opportunity to talk about your backstory, don't say specifically "i'm a forest druid" just say it by talking about your home was damaged by a forest fire, etc.

have equipment and trinket that would be found in the forest.

i don't know.. just random thoughts off the top of my head...

Are there going to be "swamp druids" or "desert druids" in your group too? I'm pretty sure, unless the setting is specifically a desert setting or the DM tells you you're starting in a town in the mountains (in which case your bigger concern is how to you explain your being there?) or whatever...but my point is (sorry for the digression) that I would think it will be assumed you are a "forest druid" without you saying anything.

The suggestions above are all good ones (I especially like the phrases/speech suggestion). I'd only add, maybe, that your description of your appearance should tell them everything they need to know. Are there feathers of hawks or owls or colorful songbirds tied to your staff/spear/cudgel? Or on a headband or just tied to your hair...Are there oak leaves and sprigs of holly or mistletoe jutting out of pouches, belt, or wrapped up in your hair (which I think has been done to DEATH, but it beats the twigs and antlers everyone seems to have these days). Grey-green or green-brown leathers/outfits/cloaks say "woodlands" pretty well.

How are you going to describe how your character actually looks? That should do most of the work.

If someone asks you where you're from, you can say "The southern woodlands or such-n-such forest" or whatever. Other than that...there should be no reason for you to ever bring up/say outright, "I'm a forest druid."

Or just name your character "Lorax" and tell everyone you speak for the trees.

haha. Yes. Though "I speak for the trees" reminds me of something else I normally do. The order of druids in my world normally use an honorarium of the woods they're from, trained or initiated in, etc..."I am Shannara of the Shadebough Circle." [where "Shadebough" is a fairly well known stretch of ancient woods in the area known to have druids come and go]

Now, if you're a long distance from them, it might not mean anything to certain PCs or NPCs. But certain characters familiar with the world's geography should pick it up (or you or your DM can let them know). Check with your DM (or if it's ok for you just make it up yourself) on significant forests that house or train or are rumored to be enchanted, etc...from which it would be reasonable to have a druid originate.

That "Self-title" plus your appearance and a few comments/speech patterns or idioms should do the trick.

You'll have the other players saying "We get it! You're from the woods." in no time.

Carry a small potted oak. Name the oak "Troot". In combat, cast shillelagh. Describe your attack as Troot growing and punching your opponents while you hold the pot. You should probably have him say a catch phrase.

Also, you should be a gnome. But a really, really hairy one. With a long nose. Named "Gnocket".

You could also do some of the above without the silliness.

Easy. Take produce flame as your other cantrip. Describe those attacks as you shooting fire from your crossbow. You could even yell "Blam! Murdered you" each time you shot, if you were so inclined.
