D&D 5E Really want access to DungeonScape

I hope this isn't inappropriate to ask in this forum. I really don't intend to troll or something.

I'm dying for access to DungeonScape; really want to use it to generate characters for myself and my ~8-10 yo kids who never seem happy with a character I generate yet (so I'm constantly re-iterating the build... sigh).

I signed up for Beta at GenCon D&D All Access, but still haven't heard anything :(

Anyone have a beta invite or anything?

Please :)

The folks at DungeonScape just released a blog post this morning talking about where things currently stand.

GO HERE.

Oh, how pertinent. Thanks!

I chuckled after reading their comment "...Most of this is rooted in the history of D&D digital products in the past, and in truth there are plenty of things to be concerned about."

Personally sad they are doing iOS first as it means I will have to wait even longer. Plus all I really want is a simple character generator at this point. Looks like I will just have to finish my own excel based one.

Seems like the web version would have been the most inclusive, especially if it could work with mobile browsers. I can't remember but wasn't there a Wizards poll on technology usage that indicated preferences that were not iOS in the majority?

They said in the blog post the reason they started with iOS was that their engineer had the most experience using that one, plus they believed tablets to be more populous at the game table (for players and DMs) than laptops.

Agreed

Agreed. I would think that HTML5 would be sufficient to cover all bases? This really would have seemed the smartest thing to me to please the most people and get their product into the hands of the most users, but what do I know.

Figures. I seem to think I've seen this too, but my brain is probably just making that up. I tried to find anything on this with some Google-Fu but can't find it.

Check out the market share of operating systems accessing the internet and make your own conclusions, but for me a web based solution hands down gets their product to the most people right away.

I have to give the developers the "benefit of the doubt" that they know what they're doing; but I find the second half of that statement unlikely. Plus, anyone who's actually used a tablet to try and do any Real work (i.e. typing, making a bunch of documents, etc that might be used in a game) knows within 10 minutes that a notebook is far superior to using a tablet and light years beyond using a cell phone.

I have to assume that the most pertinent use scenario for using tablets / cell phones at a gaming table is that it has some info you're constantly using, like your character sheet. Anyone try to keep a cell phone or tablet on for 4-5 hours gaming? I think the first thing you find is that you MUST leave it on a charger, and.... oh snap... have fun getting a group of people sitting at a table with those 3 foot proprietary apple chargers somehow rigged to stretch out to your wall outlet across the room (or your game store). Whereas at least any standard notebook charger has a chance to do so.

Oh, and how annoying is it to have to keep turning your cell phone / tablet ON to see that character sheet? Could be fixed by some setting I suppose, but you wouldn't have that problem with a notebook PC.

Apple Favoritism. (Grumble Grumble)

Is anyone surprised?

Oh well, all we can do is wait... just some of my thoughts. I'm sure I'll be happy when it's out :)
