D&D 5E MM sold out on amazon

Nice job 5e team! I'm sure amazon will restock in short order but it's nice to see D&D manuals actually cleaning out stock especially a monster manual, wow!

Not saying this is unheard of, but it's still a nice sign of the interest the new edition is garnering.

Wonder if the recent Kotaku article contributed to this?

Kotaku? Am I missing a reference? That's iO9, isn't it?

But yeah, it sold out prior to the article.

I think the article got shared to Kotaku, which is probably where Zulithe saw it. io9 and Kotaku repost one another's articles every so often.

"Sold out" means very little. For all we know there could've been only three copies ordered in the first place.

If we were talking about a FLGS I would agree with you. However, this is Amazon.

So there are either distribution problems (WotC can't get stock to Amazon quick enough), Amazon underestimated demand (unlikely since their pre-orders would have given them an idea of how many copies they should order), there were a large amount of copies with page smudges that were recalled or the print run sold out and Amazon are waiting for more copies.

Each smudged book shipped out probably cost them another unsmudged book they had to ship out to satisfy buyers. That could have eat up a lot of stock.

I ordered it from the German Amazon site on 29/09 and it had an expected delivery date of Friday 10/10

Still hasn't shipped yet though :(

When you check the item out now then it says it has an expected delivery date of 2 to 4 weeks.

I wonder what caused this.
Does Wotc only start their shipping to Amazon on the official release date?
