Kender and Warforged don't belong in the DMG. They should be in the Monster Manual (or the Players Handbook 2)

Nooo. They should be in the setting material for the D&D worlds they inhabit (and were created, specifically, for), Krynn [Dragonlance] and Eberron, respectively. Whether that is some kind of online appendix, a single [lost and forgotten] page on the WotC site, a 6 page print-on-demand pamphlet or a whole hardcover and/or box set for campaigns in their particular world.

But I, too, am overjoyed to hear they won't be in the DMG.

I have run two published adventures in my career as a DM, and they were among the worst games I have played. I really don't like the fact that they are packaging the things I want with the things I really, really don't.

I meant that explanation is clear, not that I like the approach. But it depends, you can combine world or setting flavor with mechanics in a good way. Not done that often, but its possible.

My reading of Mearls' explanation was that the player's source is a separate book from the adventure, so you can get the players' options without having to buy the adventure itself.

>You can expect us to do one or two such products a year, to give people enough time to play through a campaign without overwhelming them with new options."

I don't buy that for a second. There was so much content being cooked up for 4e that I couldn't keep up with my players for all the new stuff they wanted to do with their characters. Reversing course might be a good thing for the game and for the DM, but how does that square with the profits that Hasbro is expecting from this division?

Agreed. I don't believe that for a minute. I don't see how they can stay in business only making one or two products a year. They have to be able to make money and you make money by producing products either in print or electronically. If they don't, Hasbro will fold the product line in a heartbeat.

I would prefer online. Kender are a waste of space, they're basically halflings which are immune to fear. Warforged on the other hand are unique and worthy of an official printing somewhere. I would also like to see half giants.

The psionic sourcebook would be the player's companion to the DM's mind flayer campaign. The sourcebook would have all the info for creating psionic characters, along with world material for players who are creating characters for the mind flayer campaign. The player's book might also have a chapter written from an in-world perspective on psionics and psionic monsters, the kind of information that a character might have access to or have heard.."

The inclusion if world material tied to a campaign would, almost certainly, stop me from buying the product.

MM mentioned that at one point they had a weapon maneuver tied to each weapon - I wish that had stayed in, or had been thrown into DMG!

Yup, WotC is a business first and formost. Their job is to make money for hasbro. Personally, I thought about not buying anything from WotC since Hasbro supports child slave labor in china. But I figured the books are made here in the USA so I dont feel as bad buying those as I would buying Hasbro mini's.

My guess is, after the 4e shutdown by Hasbro, they're expecting a lot less of revenue form RPG books and they're focusing on diversification. We'll probably get a lot of stuff on many fronts with the D&D brand on it, but not necessarily lots and lots of splatbooks.
