D&D 5E Lost Mine of Phandelver TPK

We finished our LMoP campaign last night and...

DEFINITE SPOILER ALERT

[sblock]when the characters got to the very last room...they died. NEVER underestimate the potency of giant spider poison. The dwarf cleric actually died via the hands (claws?) of ghouls in room 9 a few hours earlier.[/sblock]

Still, everyone had a great time

That campaign has ended now; there's no going back to it as it was the very last room. The campaign served its purpose; to allow us to try out the game and see if we all enjoyed, which we did.

He sat there for about 90mins and chipped in with suggestions and all that as the game went on. If the death had happened at the start of play I'd have done something to include him but as it was nearing the end he was fine with how things panned out. As it was, we only had four players and there were 5 npcs so I offered him one of the characters another player was using as he was controlling two. But the player (whose character died) didn't fancy playing another character

I hate to say it, (or do I?) but that sounds like a pretty epic end to the campaign. Did they know who the main villain was and his plans, or did they die trying to find out....

Edit: and ghouls ARE nasty. I haven't used a giant spider yet.

It was a pretty epic battle to be fair to us all

They had a good idea who the drow was, but not for definite

What level were the party members?

All were 4th level aside from the halfling who used more of the rules in the phb; he was a 3rd Warlock/1st Rogue

My guys will start 4th level at Cragmaw Castle. I think they'll be near the end of 4th or at best beginning of 5th at Wave Echo.

This is the second TPK I've read about at the end game. Hmm....

The flameskull almost TPK us but we bolted. Weused radiant dawn via the light cleric in the last fight.
