WotC Job Offers

I noted a rather extensive listing of job offers by WotC:

WotC job offers.

Most of them are either M:tG sopecific or general in nature.

Only one job seems to mention D&D specifically:

http://jobs.hasbro.com/job/Manager Communications Dungeons & Dragons.

Perhaps we will see some of this "Grow the Brand! Grow the Brand!" strategy in 2015.

those would be Job Openings, rather than Job Offers. A Job Offer is to an individual and generally includes a salary/wage offer (hence the term, offer).

Just looking at the C# job (something I do), it looks rather boiler platey (and in fact copied from the C++ posting as they forgot to update one of the C++ references).

In Washington, they're going to need to pay top dollar for that position, given the opportunities with Google and Microsoft across the street who are much less kill-happy than WotC.

i wouldn't be keen to consider WotC, given their annual penchant for sacrifices at Christmas.

No problem! Being corrected in my use of English is something I'm perfectly ok with.

it struck me as important because I do interview people and some of those jobs I do. If I had a candidate in an interview who "thanked me for the job offer" I've got 2 problems.

A) a legal issue to stomp on as the interview (from responding to a job opening) is NOT a Job Offer. I can't have some nutjob suing me because I didn't hire him as he "had a Job Offer"

B) a language issue, as this person just demonstrated a gap in their knowledge of the English language. Are there going to be others? This causes doubt in the candidate, which if I find any other concerns, will rule a candidate out from other candidates.

Interviewing people is more art than science. As a general rule, you want to raise as few doubts for the interviewer about you as possible as you will be compared to the other candidates and guys with "many concerns" will be culled from the pool.

It still always comes down to the first 10 seconds being the part that matters as we'll dismiss one guy who doesn't know the technology for another guy who "can learn it quickly enough" which makes no sense as it is the same concern just worded differently to make one sound bad and the other sound good.

I don't think they've done much of it in years when an edition (or revision) was being finished up and released. I personally wasn't expecting to see any until after the new year, perhaps in the Spring. Considering how much they are outsourcing, they probably have precious few in-house personnel that are expendable at this point, which is good. Watch for the current employees who begin crowing about their new non-WotC imprint or side-projects on their blogs. Try to interview them before they sign their severance NDA and ask them about the hot tub parties.

This year the Holiday Sacrifice was their integrity on the issue of Mythic Rares in Magic: The Gathering.

I imaging they need to hire a few flacks and sacrifices-to-be to deal with the mess of trying to spin it as anything but a blatant cash-grab and a tapestry of lies. Hence the "Brand Manager," "Product Manager," and "Communications Directory" postings. Oh, and hey, "Fraud Specialist" - does what it says on the tin right there. ;P
