Traveller Thoughts?

That said, the core MegaTraveller set did consolidate and tidy up lot of the Classic Traveller stuff that came before. Some of the rules were neat and the whole thing functionally worked under the same 2d6 basis as what went before. It’s entirely compatible, and arguably has a much more polished and clarified ruleset. On top of this, if you do like the Imperium setting (in this specific era) then it does give you a lot more setting material to run with.

Just to note, while I agree with a large part of what you say, this bit is only true at the level of a player character. Vehicles and spaceships are significantly different, and there are smaller changes to system generation as well.

I cannot find any of my MegaTraveller stuff - and my old brain (i386/sx) is not as good as it once was; however, where the vehicle and spaceship rules more detailed in MegaTraveller?

Also - didn't the armor mechanics change as well? Armor reduced damage, and was no longer a modifier To Hit. I am torn - armor which modifies To Hit rolls is quick and dirty; however, armor that reduces damage is a nice concept as well - I can never decide which method/mechanics I like the best. Usually the modified To Hit rolls works for my group, since it is quick and one less step to factor out, which lets us focus more on role playing and the story.

The MegaTraveller vehicle rules were very similar to those in the Striker miniature rules that came out for Classic Traveller, though not an exact match. The spaceship rules were probably based more on High Guard than on the simple set in the LBBs. And armour was something that had already been done as DR (both in Striker and Snapshot), in a way that was easy to adapt to the Classic Traveller rules.

Looking back, it's astonishing how much of the rules from LBB era Classic Traveller got a new version over the course of the edition. A very sturdy rules chassis, that could take a lot of adaptation. The Task System that DGP came up with was just one of them.
