That it discourages some people and doesn't discourage others.

Of course it does for some, but I wouldn't use it as some excuse not to put out a significant amount of products. It's working for Pathfinder and you don't even have to go to that level.

Wall of books is not a serious problem I'm afraid.
 






Not sure about your gaming stores but around here everything is neatly displayed with covers of the core books facing out to give you a hint as to where you begin and they keep the various games together.
 

You really think buying 3-12 books a year is rare? I'm trying to think of the age landscape, I'm in my 30s and have no issue buying 3-12 books a year. I would think the only age group that may have an issue would be those under 18. It seems to me they are selling a lot of these books. The people that aren't buying are the constant complainers who are never happy.

Also didn't WoTC already say they are going to release one adventure every quarter so at least four books a year?

Yes, buying to 12 books is not the problem. Now being able to read and use the 3 to 12 books is the problem!

Ah, but it would be a great 1st world problem to have.
