Now where did those guys laughing all happy about Ebberon go? Everyone knows Magic Trains are just so bad....

As a campaign setting, Realms is almost as old as D&D (since Ed started in early, and the Realms was his setting), even if he wasn't "serious" about it until 78.

As a literary concept, it's much older (specifics vary, but let's go with "the 60's"). Ed obviously took his original idea and expanded and revised it as he matured (certainly making it much, much better), but that doesn't invalidate the early work.

Ed and Gary got along fairly well (so I've heard), so this argument is really, REALLY stupid. Both sides are "right" by their own perspective of things. At this point no one is going to be persuaded, so all you're doing is screaming (typing) into the wind...

I do not see the trouble with dating something from when it was first invented.

I mean it is like using date of birth rather then date from which I first met you.

The secondhand accounts I have read indicate the same. I bet those were some really awesome conversations.

I wouldn't say there's an argument. Rather, one person had this crazy idea that it might be good to point out on a gaming website that it's the Realm's birthday, and another person decided to take a dump on the idea, because "facts."

On the plus side, I got to learn a little bit about copyright and discovered a pair of online sources may be wrong on the date when the Zirta story was first written, so it's not a total loss.

look I don't want to rain on the guys parade, but there are times when false info can spread and become 'excepted' and I don't mind people who already belive Ed greenwood predates D&D to keep going, but I don't want some new kids stumbling on this and excepting it as a fact.

Seriously, the guy has been nothing but nice and has only shown excitement for the Realms. To face such an onslaught of basement pedantry, really. It hurts my soul. Truly, the worst side of these forums.

Cut the dude some slack.

Ugh.

Edit: Removed the semi-naughty language.

What a profound mound of douchebaggery. Cut the dude some slack.

Ugh.
I'm sorry, you think name calling is the way to make the world better... all I want is to explain to people seeing the thread what is going on... I don't think that makes me the d word you used....

I'll gladly accept your faux offense.

Really man. Look over your posts. You went after the guy whose only offense was excitement. And you just didn't stop.

I have broad shoulders. Shovel away. It's not cool. 'Nuff said.
