D&D 5E Do you think we will get an Oriental Adventures setting for 5th edition?

That's pretty true, actually. I can't remember if the original Oriental Adventures sourcebook was based entirely around Kara-Tur in FR or if it was in general about Asian-themed campaigns. That said, "Asian Adventures" sounds...odd..somehow... :hmm:

"Asian" definitely sets it on Earth; Asia is a region of our world, just like Europe is.

It is a whole continent, but it also includes so many cultures I doubt you could cover them all adequately. Eastern Asia is what most think of when you say the old "Oriental Adventures" name.

My point was that the word refers to the real world, not a fictional one.

Hmmm, this is more complicated than I thought...

So if I'm following, then we have the following concerns:

* The terminology used to described the indigenous cultures of S/E Asia. (IE Oriental, Asian, etc.)
* The monotizing of different cultures into a generic single culture (one that has samurai, ninjas, Shaolin Monks, and Khans all living together; though I guess it doesn't bother others that a cleric of Apollo, a druid, and a paladin can all be in a classic D&D party).
* The fetishizing of certain elements of the culture (katanas can cut a tree in half)
* The poorly researched or nonsensical elements corrected or purged (wu jen, Korobukuru)

That's a fairly tall order, but not insurmountable. I can see though perhaps why WotC isn't quick to undertake it though.

Except the Realms basically includes Kara-Tur, al-Qadim, i forget the name of the Central/South American themed area.

The APs won't leave the Sword Coast region because they have to be tied with WotC's new flagship video game Sword Coast Legends. This is why the first AP was an adventures that should have been on Krynn, but happened on the Sword Coast. Why PotA should have been set on Oerth, but happened on the Sword Coast. Why OotA was a Planescape adventure, but it was tucked away in the Sword Coast's Underdark where Demon Lords couldn't affect much of the status quo of the surface.

Kara-Tur? Al-Qadim? We won't even get Cormyr, Thay, Chult or the Dales. Except maybe in cameos thanks to a portal that lets PCs briefly do something there. The Sword Coast is where D&D will be happening for a while.

Mine was that even if you called it 'Asian Adventures' you would do a disservice if you didn't include the myths of the whole real world continent of Asia.

We do use Norse and Nordic though in some settings don't we?

I always find it odd how some things are used and others aren't but some folks get upset about terminology lol.

Hmmm. I'm not sold on the idea that any reference to a region requires that that treatment be exhaustive.
