D&D 5E (2024) Hellfire Club Starter Set

I have starter set (digital version). It’s tamer than ST, for sure, which actually makes it feel a bit cringier.

I don't think I see how that works, but is also aside the point, which is that "Oh, but the Children!" isn't a likely issue when the source material has swear words in abundance.

Earlier today I got the Hellfire Club Starter set, and I've spent a little bit of time with it checking it out and comparing it to the Heroes of the Borderlands starter set.
I have a question that’s been bugging me ever since I first read the title of this thread: is the Stranger Things product supposed to be a “starter set” or is it just an adventure series that starts at first level?

Yeah, it doesn’t have the words starter set (or synonyms thereof) on the box, nor is it described that way in any of the official WotC marketing materials. I’m not sure why people are describing it as such. I would call it a boxed set media tie-in.

It's a starter set, no question about that.

Based on the theme of the starter set, and the "author" being Eddie it kind of makes sense that it's dungeon crawls since it's an 80s style of play. It's nice to have different approaches to starter sets, even if I think the Borderlands set might be a bit better for casual newbies just trying out the game.
