D&D 5E New Guy wants to be a Mad Scientist

Hey Guys,
Sort of new to the D&D Scene... but I get the general idea of the game and played the 5e Starter Set and felt unsatisfied by the characters given. So I want to try again with my own creation, however I would like help or a template on how to make them without over doing it or over powering them, it wouldn't be any fun otherwise. I have an idea on my Hybrid Race I want to use, but its the limitations I'm struggling with. So is it possible to be given the correct number of features, traits, etc. that I can use and hopefully, I can use this for others in my campaigns that want to do the same as well.
Thanks.

I'd say start with what you have, modify and tweak as necessary, and then put it up for review. We can't really critique something that doesn't exist.

The pic looks an elf got blood in his eye from Alice of Gotham fame. But serious poster, give some stats and which book you planning on using.

The Character I want to make is a Elf/Orc or Dantise as its stated in Dandwiki. Only problem is that I don't know where or what to follow from this, As I took the liberty to check each pages on that site:
Elf Orc
Dantise
Orc
Elf
Half-Elf
Half-Orc

Only problem being adding up all the perks, traits, features etc... there's a lot! Probably too much.
If possible can you guys give me a quick idea on what would be a good way to start and finish him, the image is a draft found online that I want to some what base my character off from.
Stats I have in mind already its the features, traits, perks, etc. I need help with.

The rules for making characters are not in the starter set, but you can download then for free from http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules which will give you a range of choices for race, class and background. If you want to play a mad scientist, then Gnome Wizard (Sage) might fit.

The choices in the Basic Rules are extracted from a hardback book called the Players Handbook which is a whole heap more of "templates" for characters.

If you want to go beyond the Players Handbook and create your own races and classes, there are guidelines in the Dungeon Masters Guide but if you are new to the game, it's better to learn to walk before you run :D

If you are finding stuff on the web, you have to make sure that it is for 5th Edition. If you post a link to what you are looking at, we will be able to tell you.

If you are looking at this Dantise then the the list of traits at the bottom of the page is what you get. You don't get any race features or traits from Elf or Orc as well, you just get those listed, as a package.

Actually that Mad Scientist is meant to be me experimenting with hybrid races to make them more interesting... I would like a Dire Elf/Elf Orc/Dantise whatever its called. The whole purpose is to ask tips and how I can limit its capabilities, so its fun to play but also not boring from being over powering too.

http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Elf_orc_(5e_Race)
These are links plus the others being from Orc, Half-Orc, Elves and Half-Elves too.
I want to know the limitations to limited number of things I can chuck on it as a player race for character usage. A template on say 3-5 traits, 3-4 perks on another, 2-3 features, etcs... for example.

I got a younger sister and niece that want to play, but they want stuff like Angels, Fairies, stuff like that, so for them to get those sort of characters making hybrid races is something I need to learn to do in case they ask for more or even when I'm in campaign and they want a template to base their own hybrid races too.

The guidelines in the Dugeon Masters Guide are what you want. Pages 285-287. But use the races in the Players Handbook as examples of how many traits to apply.
