D&D 5E CoS - 2 questions on play that may be broken (spoilers)

Was wondering.

1. In CoS your are in another plane. If you cast Banishment spell on your party, would you return to your "home" world?

2. If you get the luck blade with one wish, could one wish to go back in time before Strahd became a vampire and kill him before this ever happened?

Not trying to break the game if these are possible. Just thoughts.

Thanks

Do you want to play Curse of Strahd?

If you do, then the answer to your questions is "No." :)

1. Nope. Things get in. Nothing gets out.

2. Up to your DM, but be forewarned: They aren't necessarily going to let you get away with that plan Scott free.

Regarding question 1, see page 24 of CoS under "Alterations to Magic":

"The land of Barovia resides in its own demiplane, isolated from all other planes, including the Material Plane. No spell - not even wish - allows one to escape from Strahd's domain. Astral Projection, teleport, plane shift, and similar spells cast for the purpose of leaving Barovia simply fail, as do effects that banish a creature to another plane of existence." It goes on to say that the effect extends to magic items which have similar effects.

As for Wish and time travel, that's up to the DM, and always a very slippery slope. I'd likely rule it using the same argument above - travelling back in time is functionally similar to travelling to another place, it simply doesn't work. The point is that Strahd's will and the Dark Powers don't let you leave, so they definitely aren't going to let you muck around with time travel. You're stuck, like it or not.

1. Obviously I was not planning to cast Banishment. I want to play the game and I don't have the book to refer to.

2. If allowable, I do not think it will be easy and I know it would be up to DM and wording of the wish. Just thoughts running through my mind and was wondering what others thought.

Thank you for everyone's reply

If they do manage the time travel trick, they (you) might find yourselves not only against the ongoing threat of Strahd falling and the creation of the Demi-Plane. But facing the Dark Forces' agents as they
try to ensure it happens. Could be cool to run.
