D&D 5E Is there a missile weapon version

You can with thrown weapons. They are Melee Ranged Attacks. Spell only specifies melee. Handaxe for example.

Problem is that the spell has a range of 5 feet. If you throw the weapon farther than that, it's beyond the range of the spell and the spell would fizzle. Not even going into the issues with "Melee Ranged Attack", which isn't a thing as far as I know. (A Ranged Weapon Attack with a melee weapon is a thing.)

The spell in question specifies "melee attack with a weapon", so you can not throw a weapon and satisfied the spell's requirements (and there is no such thing as "Melee Ranged Attacks", though there is such a thing as a Ranged Weapon Attack made using a melee weapon, which is what happens when someone throws a melee weapon).

The Spell Sniper feat lets you double the range of cantrips with attack rolls, so that will extend the range of Booming Blade to 10 feet.
It also lets you learn one attack cantrip from any list, so it can be a nice feat for classes that normally don't have access to Booming Blade.

I hadn't really thought about it until this thread. Now I want to play a halberd wielding tempest cleric who uses Booming Blade for extra thunder damage on every hit :)

While it's a bit feat intensive this can get especially nasty with the addition of Polearm Master and Warcaster. As a monster approaches and enters your reach you now get to use your opportunity attack to hit him with Booming Blade, forcing the choice between staying put or closing the distance and taking the extra damage. Additionally, if you can get your hands on a magical polearm that happens to deal a little extra lightning damage... well now after 6th level you can also push the poor sod 10 feet away from you if he's large or smaller.

Tempest is probably my favorite domain of the bunch so far, except maybe the Forge domain from the UA, so I'm always interested when stuff like this pops up.

I read it too fast and got all dislexic. I read, "Melee Weapon with an attack" and thought I was onto something (nevermind I ignored the range of the spell)

I suppose Distant Spell Metamagic (or Spell Sniper Feat) plus a polearm is a good combo, throw in Battlemaster Lunging attack for a bit more range, but yeah, your still using a melee weapon, not throwing it, but a pretty wicked combo.

Human Variant (Magic Initiate - Warlock) Fighter (Battlemaster) who takes Spell Sniper at level 4. Take Booming Blade, Eldritch Blast, and Hex with Magic Initiate, then at 4th with Spell Sniper take Frostbite (for the Dis on ranged attacks for targets who choose to range you instead of suffering booming blade). Not bad.

Top all that with the cleric Divine Strike feature at level 8 (the minimum you would need anyway for the three feats as a variant human), that you can only apply for one attack per turn, but you will probably have two (booming blade) attacks in different turns, during the course of one round.
