You can't move it, you can't get clean, you smell bad, your wife leaves you, you lose your job, the court takes your kids. Boom, for the cost of one 2nd level spell slot I've just destroyed your life and made it a living hell. What if I cast Hold Person on your debit card, BOOM you starve to death as long as I maintain concentration.

Now THAT'S magic!

My soap is behind a glass shower door and cannot be targeted.

My debit card is in my wallet, in my pants and has total concealment. It neither breaths, makes noise, or can be seen; yet it cannot take the Hide action and thus you always know where it is.

Since you can't maintain Concentration during a long rest, at worst it might only last a week. Which my marriage, job, and finances can survive.

You monster! I was in prison...you know how long I was bent over trying to pick up my soap! Not cool man, NOT cool!

Wait a minute...

Choose a humanoid that you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be paralyzed for the duration. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make another Wisdom saving throw. On a success, the spell ends on the target.

You can't make soap unpickupable with a Hold Person spell...

That means you cast the spell on me! Just as I bent down to...

YOU MONSTER!

Yeah, complete overkill. You likely already lost your wife, kids, and job.
And probably your truck and your dog.

If you could only play that country song backwards.

If you cast hold person on a person who is on a bar of soap,

Does anyone hear them fall?

Or are they held in the slipstream?

Is this your soap?
