ok sorry let me explain better

extra attack and action surge actually gives me 4 attacks

using the battle master dice in each attack
thats 2d8+14 in every attack

That 2d8+15 is assuming a critical. I was taking the possibilities to the extreme. With sharpshooter plus action surge plus criticals on all rolls plus max damage, etc.

1d8 longbow and 1d8 battle master dice
there alot of maneuvers that let me add 1d8 to the damage

This is pretty straightforward with action surge and sharpshooter. Each hit (with sharpshooter) does
1d8 (bow) + 1d8 (maneuver) + 4 (dex) + 10 (sharpshooter)
That averages to 23.

With Action Surge you have 4 attacks, thus 92 average.

Of course in that one round you burned through all your superiority dice and your action surge. It is what you expect for a fighter nova.

Is this good damage? Yes. Fighters do good damage, on the whole.

Actually, if your average is only 88, then I guess you have 16 Dex. That is kind of low for 5th level.

Ah, that makes sense. Expected damage on a nova is not what I would describe as “average damage”, I think that’s where the confusion lies.

im starting at lvl 5

fighter battle master with sharpshooter

max of 120 and avagere of 88. is this a good damage?
