Baldurs Gate 3 apparently in development (with evidence)

So, thinking it over, and adding in some hints from some recent LYSKs, I'm wondering if this will be a sequel in that Bhaal himself will be up to some shenanigans in present-day Baldur's Gate, perhaps even trying to revive some of the old Bhaalspawn? The fact that Bhaal's symbol is prominently displayed on the BG : DtA cover obviously shows that there will be some sort of Bhaal storyline in the city. That way it could still be a sequel (albeit a distant one), without picking back up on the exact original storyline (which was, for all intents and purposes, completed after Throne of Bhaal).

Also, I wonder if the NPC adjustments for 1489 DR in Heroes of Baldur's Gate might have some clues whether some old characters reappear? We know Minsc and Boo are still around, but some of the other NPC fates mentioned could be quite interesting in a video game (Imoen being a clone of the original, especially).

You actually got me wondering if BG3 is a direct prequel to BGIA. It could take place in the current-ish timeline and go right into DIA. There certainly could be a story to tell there, and hopefully it could be good!

I'd say more likely to be a sequel or maybe parallel with tie-ins, just from the scheduling. BG : DtA will be out in September; the game (if real -which to all evidence it will be) hasn't even been officially announced yet. So, unless they are really far in development of the game (given rumors over the last year or so, they are probably pretty far along, but not necessarily close to being done), the game will likely come out a fair amount of time after the book.

Also possible! It could even be the exact adventure in DIA...it more than likely won't be, but it could be!

My preference would be to make it as close as possible to BG1 and 2, but with 5e rules.

Reactions would be an issue for real-time-with-pause, 2nd edition didn't have them.

They might, but the way Shield and Counterspell work in 5e is one of my favourite features of the edition. It would be a shame if Shield went back to being a short duration buff that you had to remember to keep casting.

They could use a system where characters could have a reaction prepared and activate automatically if the condition is fulfilled.
