D&D 4E How does "Shocking Flame" combo with Firewind Weapon?

Fateslayer

Villager
Shocking Flame - When manifesting fire soul or stormsoul, your melee attack deals an extra fire damage or an extra lighting damage.

Firewind Weapon - Whenever you hit one or more targets with a fire power using the weapon, one enemy adjacent to you takes fire damage equal to 1+ the weapon's enhancement bonus.

I am currently trying to build a genasi hybrid and I found many guides making use of this combo to build some awsome hybrid builds but with the lack of fire powers, so I would really like to know how this combo work.

My understanding is shocking flame grants extra elemental damage instead of giving a weapon attack the Fire Keyword.
May I know if this is correct, please?

Yes it would give damage on top of the normal damage the new damage would have the key word fire.
Are you asking to figure out how it interacts with resistances? I do recall some pickiness about an attack delivering two damage types sometimes interacts with resistances oddly though.

According to this post on StackExchange, that references posts on the now deleted WotC forum;
The ERC (Essentials Rule Compendium) offers an update:
Page 115 under "Adding and Removing Damage Types."
"If a power gains or loses damage types, the power gains the keywords for any damage types that are added, and loses the keywords for any damage types that are removed."
Adding 1 point of cold damage adds the damage type to the attack, as it is part of the attack, conferring the keyword which confers the damage type to the entire attack.

So using Shocking Flame will make your melee attacks eligible to trigger Firewind Weapon. Nice combo!
