Remember, we're voting for your favourite monsters; they don't have to be the biggest, or the most iconic.

FAQ: Why isn't [my favourite monster] in the list? Because you didn't nominate it.

Gaming is fun, and fun is for everyone
Yeah I picked beholders, mind flayers and red dragons.

Beholders and Flayers are just iconic to D&D, and I have used them. They are one of the few monsters that truly strike fear into my players.

And the red dragon is the most dragon of all the dragons, so of course he gets a vote!

I for one, frequently use Beholders and Mind Flayers

I didn’t mean to say no one used them, only that we know most people play up to level 10, and I’m betting not many people actually have campaigns that end up fighting beholders or mind flayers. Not nearly as often as others on the list.

One does not simply use Beholders and Mind Flayers, they are the foundation of an awesome campaign. Just kidding, you can use them however you like. I do like them as BBEG, not random encounters, like an owlbear, or goblins, for example.

Eh, I guess I consider storm troopers, Bobo Fett, or even Darth Vader more of a favorite “monster” than the emperor. I.e, my favorite monsters are those you actually face with some regularity. YMMV obviously

I voted for Otyugh, just because it's both a nasty, icky thing to face and also a nice utility monster that performs a useful function in any dungeon or sewer.

I'm the Straw Man in your argument

I like it too for the reasons you mentioned.

My only question is how do you pronounce Otyugh?

Is it oh-TEE-ug ?

I think I have only used a Beholder and Mindflayers in a campaign once... and the players didn't even fight the beholder.

But creatures that pop up in my campaigns all the time: Giant Spiders, mummies, skeletons, zombies, ghosts, oozes, dragons.
