I'm glad they released some gameplay in addition to the cinematic. Blizzard does lovely cutscenes and trailers, but that doesn't tell you what the game will look like so much.

Blizzard does have some work to do to make up for the Blitzchung incident. It's all well and good to make an apology, but they do need to take action going forward.

One thing I'd love to see is a port of D1 to the Switch. Seems like it'd be a perfect fit. But it's probably not worth their time and money to go through the effort.

I'm taking the gameplay with a grain of salt. I think it likely the demo was rushed out over the past year after the reaction to the Diablo Immortal announcement.

That assumes they don't continue spiraling and making own-goals...

Well, then those new own-goals will be what we are talking about.

The news cycle is like a tide. This will be washed from the beach, and replaced by something new, several times over before this game comes out.

Not so sure about that. They've had this in development for a while.

Having something in development for a while does not necessarily mean it was demo ready. They needed something to show for this Blizzcon. They needed a demo.

I can't for sure say that they didn't have things ready for a long time, but I do think there was a lot of urgency to have the next "real" Diablo game in players hands at this Blizzcon.

If they wanted to rush something out to cure the Immortal announcement (UGH!) they couldjust cobble together another expansion for D3 fairly easily.
I'm talking about rushing something to Blizzcon, not to production.

I'm not sure a cobbled together D3 expansion would create the necessary buzz they wanted given last years brouhaha and recent dissatisfaction.

Maybe! But I really think that this has more to do with the Activision/Blizzard issues than it does the China mess.
You are probably right.

Unless and until someone on the inside posts something, we will never know;
This has never stopped me from basesless internet speculation before, and it won't stop me now!

but we do know that it was (somewhat) surprising that they didn't have a demo last Blizzcon, and that was because of the two designs going on (the Dark Souls - style development).
Probably right again.
