D&D 5E Mage hand uses

I am relatively new to the game, and was wondering, could my character use mage hand to wield a two handed weapon with only one of hiss hands? (The mage hand compensating for the other?)

The "hand" generated by Mage Hand is fairly limited in what it can do, but I really like the way you're thinking outside the box!

EDIT to remove stupid mis-remembering of spell effects...

How was I unaware of this feature! Where does it say that Mage Hand can do this? It is not listed in the spell itself.

It can’t, at least not by 5e RAW. If I recall correctly, Lanefan plays heavily house ruled 1e.

That said, it’s a cool idea and I would probably allow it. I would also probably allow a player to wield a two-handed weapon with one hand and Mage Hand. I mean, the thing can lift 10 pounds, there’s no reason it shouldn’t be able to support half the weight of a 6-pound Greatsword, or even an 18-pound pike.

Of course, you’d need a free hand to perform the somatic components, so it would amount to a cosmetic effect with no functional difference.

That’s not normally something you can use Mage Hand for, but it’s worth asking your DM. The value of Mage Hand is limited only by your creativity and the DM’s permission. (But by far the most useful application is high-fiving yourself.)

I would say no in my campaign. I would think it would not be strong enough or agile enough, but it can lift 30 pounds and be used for ranged pick pockets. It is something else I cannot put my finger on about using it this way.

Cosmetic effects FTW, though. What looks more magical? Drawing bolts to load your crossbow by hand or using mage hand to draw bolts while loading your crossbow by hand? I like prestidigitation / thaumaturgy / druidcraft too when the main benefit is looking cool in front of superstitious commoners. ;)
