I've got to agree with @Paul Farquhar on this, why do you, @Retreater , feel the need to start another thread on this topic? It has been well established that:
  1. Some people on these forums don't like it.
  2. Some do like and /or have enjoyed running it.
  3. It is not the worst reviewed (Hoard is among the worst, but Rise is actually above average), see @Urriak Uruk post about amazon rankings here.
  4. It has some overly difficult encounters caused by changes to monsters after it was finished.
We don't need to go over this again.

Literally my first experience with Hoard...
First text box in the book: “Players [1st level], you approach a city that has an adult blue dragon attacking.”
PCs: “Nope.”
DM: “Um, okay, then the campaign is over.”
That will happen the more you try not to railroad. And the less heroic your players.

I call first responders that are volunteers heroic.

I don't have first responders in fantasy campaigns.

In RL, they always staged and waited for us to give them the all-clear. I always thought that was strange: run into a burning building? No problem. Drunk with a machete? We're waiting two blocks away, call us when the scene is secure.

But I digress...

im in a rural area. My EMT’s are fire fighters are volunteers. I think that is pretty naughty word heroic.

No crime committed in a fire. Man with a machete has committed a crime and EMTs (here in Los Angeles) must.. MUST.. respect a potential crime scene or it’s their job.

I’d probably run from a dragon too.
HoatDQ should have had a few encounters or a chapter where the heroes get invested in the town and have a reason to fight.

On that metempsychosis tweak
A lot if casuals won't know any better or have anything to compare it with.

They might give it high marks for pretty art. It sold well likely due to being first dragons.
Ah yes, patronizing those who are not as "hardcore" players as you are.

What utter rubbish. A truly pathetic way of making a point.

This is the equivalent of people on my gaming message-boards deriding the "filthy" casuals.

I posted because of the frustration I'm having trying to find an adventure to run for a group that wants a "classic Dnd" experience, which would seem to be Tyranny of Dragons, but because it's awful I have to update something from a previous edition.
But more importantly, if you're tired of discussing the topic, why are you posting in the thread?
