I already gave the example of Prince Valiant upthread. NPCs die (sometimes, at least) but PCs typically don't.

Prince Valiant achieves this result by making it a matter of GM discretion (having regard to the fiction, of course) what happens when a character's Brawn is reduced to zero as the outcome of physical conflict resolution.
