Kobold Press' latest Kickstarter is here - Tome of Beasts II with 400 new 5E monsters. It funded in an hour and is rocketing through stretch goals!

Expand Your Game with New Demons & Dragons!

From the creators of the original Tome of Beasts! Kobold Press is wrangling a new horde of wildly original, often lethal, and highly entertaining 5E-compatible monsters to challenge new players and veterans alike.

The Tome of Beasts II will bring 400 new monsters to 5th edition, from angelic enforcers, sasquatch and shriekbats, to psychic vampires, zombie dragons, and so much more.

In addition to these lethal creatures to spring on players, if you back the Tome of Beasts II Kickstarter at the $25 level and up you can submit an original monster design for possible publication! The original Tome of Beasts published 40 such backer monsters, including some extremely popular creations!

Along with the Tome of Beasts II hardcover volume and PDFs, this Kickstarter will fund the creation of monster pawns, VTT versions for Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds, monster lairs with beautiful maps, and more!

Just a minor thing... I have Tome 1 and Creature Codex. Is this actually Tome 3... or is there a major difference between the Tome and Creature Codes line?

Great question! It can definitely seem a tad confusing :)

They aren't different lines - basically Kobold Press currently has two extremely popular monster books (Tome of Beasts and Creature Codex). With this kickstarter, we're adding a third - Tome of Beasts 2. It's really that simple! Kind of like in the good ol' days when we had Monster Manual, Fiend Folio, and then Monster Manual 2.

Per the Kickstarter FAQ:
Tome of Beasts 2 for 5th Edition: 400 New Monsters

What about the Tome of Beasts 2: Electric Beastaloo stickers, and the TOB2 mark on Creature Codex? Wasn't that Tome of Beasts 2 already?
Sure. If you like, Creature Codex was actually Tome of Beasts 2, it just happened to be called something else. This one is called Tome of Beasts II, as shown in the title graphics. We're really not trying to be confusing, but sometimes kobolds really do just have that 8 Wisdom.

Instabuy for me...I already have TOB(1) and CC and love the oodles of monsters I can use to keep my players from getting too complacent.

I can't resist...however...since I have access to someone "in the biz" with the books...

What is up with the super crazy monster names? I love using your content with my players because they haven't "been there and done that" with all the new monsters but struggle when I have to describe something as a Astheohthje (made up just now by randomly hitting keys) or similar. Are they real world names taken from strange myths, random keyboard typing, or even products of a deranged mind kept lock in a sanitarium?

If they were a take on a real world legendary beast (I know at least a few are) it might be cool to have a call out to that in the monster write-up if you have extra room to fill.

Thanks Marc! I figured this was the situation. Regardless, keep them coming. I already have the first two hardcovers on my shelves and room for this new one and more.
