Weirdly, I was running a game for the younger crowd with 5e. Good times! But we switched to 1e because:

1) They were interested in it; and

2) the vocabulary that is used would be helpful for their SAT prep!!!!

So there's that. :)

I have to imagine figuring Gygaxian syntax might improve their reading comprehension, too.

The harlot table got all the props, but I was always fond of the weird random tables like the tunneling table. You know, for those time you had to know how quickly fire giants could tunnel, just in case you had some helping to build your castle.

That and the random government table.

Because random government is the best government?

Seriously, the harlot table is ... infamous, I guess, but it's the example I reach for when I'm physically showing someone the 1e DMG, mainly because it's near one end of book (and the other is the random disease and infestation table, which--eww).

I would imagine the Harlot table comes BEFORE the random disease table?
