D&D 5E Lore You Should Know - Nautiloids

Link

New video from Greg Tito and Chris Perkins about the mind flayer Spelljamming ship. It does riff off the Baldur's Gate 3 cinematic, but Perkins then goes into quite a bit of detail on the ship and touches on Spelljamming in general. Even if they jokingly say that this is the fortieth time they've "confirmed" Spelljammer in the last few years, you do have to think they will be expanding on the rules for it relatively soon...

My personal suspicion based on Perkins guarded statements in the past year or so is that the Adventure storyline this year is going to be a gonzo Spelljammeriffic Mindflayer extravaganza. Probably BG3 is meant to bridge that and Avernus in the broader timeline.

I've always been fascinated by this book from Volo's Guide, on page 71:

"A few skeptics suggest that the entire narrative of the Gith victory rings false. How could a slave race overpower the mind flayers? Where are the signs of this great struggle? Perhaps the Gith didn't actually win. Perhaps, instead, the mind flayers moved themselves and their works into the future to avoid being overrun. That theory would explain the mind flayers disappearance and the absence of any ruins from their empire."

"Few folks take such talk seriously, yet no one can be sure exactly what the ilithids are and are not capable of."

Hi, I'm a Mindflayer, but don't let that worry you
If I remember correctly, the big Q2/Q3 book usually gets announced in late May or June, so we still have a ways to go before we even get an announcement. But I also think it will be a Mindflayer book.

When is BG3 expected to be released, by the way?

Later this year, with public testing starting fairly soon. Granted, schedules are obviously fluid at this point under present circumstances, but hopefully they aren't getting too far behind.

And I, too, believe we'll have a mind flayer/Spelljammer focused adventure towards the end of the year. Presumably also pulling in Lantan, since they hinted at it when commenting on the Chult map, it's technologically advanced (and thus perfect for Spelljammer), and relatively close to Baldur's Gate.

Crawford's years of teasing about Lantan include commenting on how the whole Island slipped... somewhere...during the Spellplague. Hints of weirdness...

It's not just tweets. The SCAG says much the same, and that was published back in 2015. In a way, the SCAG's entry on Lantan is one big teaser for an upcoming adventure that we have yet to see. So it has been a long-time coming, if the next storyline does indeed have something to do with Lantan (as I think it probably does).

There was originally a five year plan for the Adventures, which got shuffled when they slowed down to one Storyline a year...but that's due to come to a head soon.

A long time ago in a multiverse far far away...

It is a dark time in the multiverse. The hideous MIND FLAYERS, long thought defeated, have unleashed their devious plot to enslave all life. Emerging from hidden bases massive NAUTALOID vessels strike against multiple worlds. Only a small band of PSI KNIGHTS stands between the multiverse and complete madness....
