Hi folks,

On the latest DMs Block (Episode 204), beginning @ 32:35

Chris Perkins mentions that for an upcoming 2020 book, he has created gazetteer sections for a "series of towns" that includes:
  • Population
  • Leader ("each particular town has one")
  • Militia
  • Heraldry ("every town has a symbol that goes with it")
  • Rivals ("every town has rivals")
  • Ratings for Friendliness, Services, Comfort

My instant reaction (and hope) was for Outlands aka Planescape, but Im not super familiar with all the D&D settings, so do these sections hint at anything else? Dark Sun? Greyhawk? Dragonlance? Another part of the Forgotten Realms?

Thanks in advance for your knowledge and opinions!

Leatherhead

Possibly a Idiot.
My first thought was "That's the format from the old Volo's Guides to the Realms"

Then Perkins talked about how he loved the old Volo's Guides.

Given the date, it's not likely to be the Theros book, considering that we know what the name of that book is already. Which leaves whatever book is going to contain the recent batches of UA. So it could be any setting, but it's most likely to be another FR book with all the Class variant rules in it.

Off topic : [ Playing AD&D with only the MM : Monsters fighting monsters. Such a great concept. Love it! Maybe with a Rock-Lobster! :) ]

If I was to take a guess, I’d say Cormyr. Sounds like something I’d expect from there.

Too bad my luck at predicting these sorts of things is awful.

EDIT: Oh, look, Jgsugden beat me to it... maybe there’s hope I got it right after all.

If they're smart they'll make sure that it's relatively setting agnostic. I'd agree that the realms is the likely default setting though. Cormyr is a good guess.

If it's Cormyr, they managed to pick the one area of the Realms that guarantees no-sale for me. Cormyr is a police-state hellhole ill-suited for adventuring and well-suited for jackbooted thugs!

APDAB.

(I jest but honestly to hell with Cormyr and it's adventurer charters and adventurer tax and so on. In 2E it was like literally the last place any actual adventurer should want to go, and so locked down and well-guarded that little real adventuring should be taking place there.)

So I'm hoping Dalelands, but the format sounds very much Forgotten Realms, either way.

My more unlikely hope is something like Birthright, but I very much doubt it.
