WotC "D&D's Best Year Yet"

So really there is no contradiction here.
Didn't claim there was, just pointing out a different experience. Which you noted it is to be expected.

EDIT: I do realize that the tone of my response was contradictory, just wanted to clarify that it wasn't my intent.

Culturally athletes may act negatively toward d&d players.
I know it probably happens/happened, but neither I or nor my children experienced anything like that. But we never had any issues with bullying either. Just not our experience. Again, I know it is thing - just not my experience.

How much bullying went around definitely varies by decade, location and school.

There's two schools semi notorious for violence here. I went to one if them. Saw some crazy stuff. Didn't do the worst of it or catch the worst if it.

They fired the entire school board a few years back though. They ripped out all the lockers in 1990 you had to carry your books in your bag (started 1991 no lockers).

ah. My apologies.

Also, its good you've never had an issue with bullies.

Sounds reasonable based on what you stated happened at your school.

Yeah I got detention and remember shoveling coal into a boiler. Caretaker usually let you go early if you did a good job.

I had about a years worth of detention saved up just point blank refused to do it. Couldn't get expelled for it. Ended up doing about two weeks of it for stuff I actually did.

How much detention you did also varies by how well you could bribe the prefects with candy/money/cigarettes, booze/ playboy.

I was assigned detention frequently at the start. I pulled something i dont think many kids would get away with these days.

I just blackmailed any teacher involved (in a way that couldnt provably be traced back to me) so that i never omce had to go. I was a lot scarier back when i was in school than i am now. I did NOT have time for someone to wag their finger at me and tsk tsk over something petty that no one who was SOMEONE was going to remember in a decade.

I hated how the modern nanny state had become intimately entwined in the structure of schools and i taught all my closest friends to do the same.

A lot of people thought i was an anarchist when i was young. I actually have always been of the opinion that anarchy is fundementally irrational. I just didnt have time for punishment. xD

No apologies needed. I reread my post and though I didn't literally contradict what you were saying, my tone was definitely contradictory. Just wanted to clarify I was just providing personal experience, not contradicting the science.
its cool.

Also on a side note i always love hearing about role players that have gotten their kids into the game.

I hope to do the same. Not at that stage yet.

If you had balls of brass you could just go and cross your name off detention lists when no one was looking.

You could also steal detention slips and other paperwork and prefect badges. Give some other poor sod detention and write a different name on the paperwork.

Juniors didn't know any better and even if they did you could throw them in the pool or whatever.

Only took 7 to years after I left for them to fix that.

It must be the NE alignment in me. It was much more satisfying to watch the teachers cross the name off for me.

Come to think of it, giving it to someone else would have been a deliciously evil trick to pull on some people i remember from back then.

I wish i had thought of THAT solid gold item. That would have been AWESOME.
