Unearthed Arcana Why UA Psionics are never going to work in 5e.

It doesn't take years to get a basic level of skill in the use of weapons. It says basic, not highly skilled. Yes, it would take years to become highly skilled in all of those weapons. Getting a basic level of skill doesn't take long at all. Take basic math. It doesn't take long to learn 2+2=4

Would it take longer than 1 day? Yes. There is a disconnect still, but less severe than becoming a Wizard in 1 day.
Does it though? Have you learned a weapon based martial art, much less ones based on all the weapons in the PHB?

Been a long time since you've taught someone basic math, hasn't it.

Substitute teacher, I've still been working basic addition with kids in 1st grade. A full year after they started.

2+2 = 4 is easy now, but trust me, teaching it to a six year old is much harder than you seem to think.

And that's when your brain is primed and ready to learn things.

My 6 year old had that down when he was 5. He's working on 1st grade stuff now and is bored with it, because it's too easy for him.

1 child

let's see, 25 kids per classroom, at least 4 classrooms per grade level (usually more but lets undershoot this), 8 school districts... over five years is 4,000 kids.

I think the weight of evidence is on my side.

Okay. Basic is tough for 6 year old kids and mine is just very smart. How about 10 year olds? By the time PCs are adventuring, basic level is a snap.

So, now you want to go up to different levels of math?

Or are you trying to say that learning any martial art is as easy as learning 2+2 = 4?

Let me ask you this Max, did you find learning how to speak English easy when you were 5? I mean, by five they have easily mastered the basics of language.

Think it is still easy to teach English to someone in their 40's? I'm sure they can master the basics of English really easily right?

Nope. Pointing out that basic is basic, and that basic is easy.

You don't have to be skilled with the weapon. Just have some basics down.

Weapon skills are easier to teach. I got the basics of fencing pretty quickly. I wasn't that good, but the basics didn't take long. Same with martial arts when I took it. Getting the basics on how to stand, where to hold your arms, the basic punches, blocks and kicks, etc., took very little time to learn. Practicing and getting better at them took a while.

Basics are easy, well, not the basics of language, the basics of weapons are easy. That is your position?

Let me ask then, as a Fencer, you learned how to stand, that took how many lessons before you stopped messing up and did it correctly every time? Did that cover what to do with a knife? A longsword? A Greataxe? A whip? Do you feel you know how to stand with a shield an a flail?

Where to hold your arms. Basic Punch. Basic Block. Basic Kick.

That is Five subjects, about 39 different weapons, about what, ten types of armor? Then add a shield to combo, as well as any one-handed light weapon being dual wielded.

I'm not sure why you seem unwilling to admit that this is a massive amount of knowledge. Learning to kinfe fight does not teach you how to wield a whip. Using a club is different from using a mace.
