Unearthed Arcana Why UA Psionics are never going to work in 5e.

If Psionics was brought to 5e the way I'd like it to be, there'd be a non-spellcaster Psion class that has 6 main subclasses focused on these key things:
  1. Psychokinesis- telekinesis, adjusting object's weights, flight, so on. Focused on Force and bludgeoning damage.
  2. Psychometabolism- altering your body to become better at melee combat, altering your body, other such abilities. Focused on weapon damage.
  3. Telepathy- just what it sounds like, you get at will telepathy, eventually links between more creatures at a larger range, so on. Focused on psychic damage.
  4. Clairsentience- you can create scrying sensors, throw your sight, see the future to gain advantage on d20 rolls x times a day, so on. Focused on control, as well as force damage.
  5. Metacreativity- creation through your mind. Summoning objects into existence, as well as an "animal" companion similar to a steel defender. Focused on utility and elemental damage.
  6. Psychoportation- focused on teleportation, which eventually grows in range, can manipulate the battlefield, and is a master field manipulator. Does force damage, but not as much as a Psychokineticist.
There'd also be Metapsionics that functions similar to metamagic, but for psionic abilities but works differently.

I think this is dead on, but I would substitute 5 with Pyrokineses. Summoning/creation doesn't mesh with psionics in my mind, and the pyrokinetic has a lot of history, even outside the game.

Summoning/creation has been a part of psionics since the class's introduction in 2e.
I'm willing to sacrifice some things to God's of Streamlining and creation of matter 2ould be my first choice. Just my opinion, though. I always thought the Astral Constructs were pretty stupid and reeked of "we gotta give these guys a summon, too". I could get behind a copy of yourself, but not animated beings with their own agendas.

I personally wouldn't want either. If it was a copy of yourself, that'd be too close to an echo knight. I'd prefer summoning elemental beings that follow your commands exactly, but you'd control them mentally. They really wouldn't be individual creatures, more an extension of yourself.
