D&D 5E The case for (and against) a new Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book

No, those books do include a lot of information on local Settings to spin off into further adventures. The Setting info in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist is far more in-depth than the Waterdeep section of the FRCS.

Again you’re telling people to pay $50 for minimal content to use then. Fiscally irresponsible request. It hasn’t been until the last 6 years that people have argued RPGs are a premium hobby but the only game people are really expected to pay premium for minimal content is D&D. Other companies successfully continue to follow the classic model for their game lines with less cost & more depth. Do they have D&D success? Nah but they don’t have the same streaming support that D&D does and therefore don’t have the same brand recognition. This is also the only forum I see the argument being made in sharp contrast to pre5e. But then it is the same people over and over again so I guess it’s not the forum but like four users.

I've written this somewhere else, but the 3E FRCS only has 40 pages more setting material than the SCAG (much of the book is covering concepts like magic and deities). Yes it covers way more grography, but that's because many spots get only a paragraph or two.

SCAG is a case of going deep rather than wide.

Yes, a region book like Waterdeep & The North from 1e.

$50 a game book that offers countless hours of entertainment, potentially for years of use, is not fiscally irresponsible, it's actually quite frugal as entertainments go.

I’m out. You’re a broken record on this.

The point is, it is not a given that a new model is needed in the game, even if a FRCS would be cool. SCAG is a successful product, and is still actively selling. I doubt to see much change as long as that is the case.

Page counts aren't the best metric to go by. If you compare the font sizes used in the two books, you'll see that there are significantly more words per page in the FRCS than there are in the SCAG.

Gaming is fun, and fun is for everyone
I didn’t realize “copy, paste, modify” as previous versions have kinda done for the Realms was a lot of effort. I’m kidding.

It's more effort than Tyranny of Dragons was, which is just two books smooshed into one book with added concept art. I'm not sure why people are bringing it up at all unless they just want the SCAG to have extra art and a special edition cover.

Is this a joke? You're paying for the adventure AND the setting material. If you only plan on using one, you're the fiscally irresponsible one.

Look, people disagree with your arguments. Doesn't mean you should be rude :)

I don't feel that @teitan was being rude, we are basically at an impasse.

Honestly, I never know when to shut up in a roundabout conversation....
