Unearthed Arcana Why UA Psionics are never going to work in 5e.

Then they do that. It's their choice. Why are you choosing to make a case about the obvious?
Lots of people seem to be labouring under the delusion that if they keep rejecting things they don't care for then WotC will keep coming back with something else, until they eventually come up with something that they think is perfect, and then 70% of the community will agree with them.

Your claim that the choice between supporting the Psionic Soul and having no psionics is a "false dilemma" puts you firmly in the that category.

You're saying that I am arguing a strawman, but then you keep repeating things like this. So what is it, Paul? What are you actually arguing or advocating here? Put some meat on your words.

I'm not "advocating" anything. It's not my job to tell people what to do.
So it's just your job to make ominous threats involving WotC's profit margins and a 70 percent approval rating? Like I just don't get your purpose or why you keep harping on about this. What does this one-note-song line of posting serve the discussion?

I am not making "ominous threats", I am pointing out the reality of the situation. My purpose is I am sick and tired of people living in Cloud Cuckoo Land over the chances of getting what they want and believing that the thing they want would be popular with everyone else.

And mostly, I am writing in support of the original thesis of this thread. Much as I would like psionics in 5e, the reality is it is simply never going to happen.

That's why I advocated honesty. I will be honest about what I think about WotC's psionics in the feedback they are asking. It's not necessarily my way or the highway, as I have posted a generous amount of possibilities and approaches. I have even made similar suggestions in my feedback to WotC. But if all of this means that there will not be psionics, then so be it. I would rather see WotC do psionics well than having psionics just for the sake of having it, and lying about it does no one any services. It certainly doesn't make the greatest edition of D&D any better.

And there we differ. I would rather see psionics done in a way that I didn't particularly care for* than not done at all.

*As I've said, I would prefer psionics as a side ability rather than a dedicated class, but I voted for Mystic because other people wanted it.

And honesty? It seems to be a destructive obsession in some parts of the world.

It's absolutely a False Dichotomy. Regardless of whether WotC chooses to offer up something after this Psionic Soul or not, the option for something other than the Psionic Soul or not is present. You don't know that nothing else will come if this one fails. You're just guessing and presenting the False Dichotomy.

This. 100% this. I would rather have no psionics than bad psionics. I would rather have psionics well done than psionics just because they want to add psioinics in.
