D&D General Netflix pulls Community's Dungeons & Dragons episode over blackface concerns

I love satire, I'm for comedic and creative freedom. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Simple enough.

Mercurius, that is a gross oversimplification of reality.

Firstly, Satire, and humor preferences are not universal across cultures. Irony and Satire rules the funny bones of Americans of a certain age, not everyone.

I have Jewish ancestry, (amongst others), so while I have never listened to a Father Coughlin radio broadcast, my not listening to it does not protect me.

The parishioners of the Emanuel AME church in SO Carolina, likely do not read 4Chan, but did that protect them from Dylann Roof?

Humans, when they feel entitled to act without having to justify or explain their behaviors do horrible things.

If you were ordering pizza for your D&D group, and someone was deathly allergic to pepperonis would you just tell them to “Eat around it” ?

I’m not say the show Community is equivalent to 4Chan, but the problem with the policy of:
“ You do You”........
........Is that quite a few people have no problem with Others suffering or dying, for their irony or their view of how the world should be.

Terrible analogy.
If you do not like the episode you do not watch it.
If you (collective in this case) cannot eat a specific pizza, you order another pizza off the menu for yourselves.

The option exists to watch another series or episode, just as you may replace the topping or order another pizza.

To be clear, by issue is with the analogy you provided. Mercurius may address the other issues.

People forget. Freedom of speech. Creative freedom. Does not mean freedom from consequences.

The above is real and needs to be dealt with properly.
Pulling an episode for a satirical joke is window dressing.

EDIT: Identify the real problem. Treat the real problem.
I’m not unsympathetic to this.
Netflix, is a company.
If you think this is window dressing tell them.
I do not disagree with you, it is a feeble move.

But then again, so is not farting during a funeral.
A token gesture can demonstrate empathy, at least.

I'm all for some radical change believe it or not.
I just believe these micro changes are not at all helpful or useful.

You have Robert Downey Jnr's role in Tropic Thunder being defended by Jamie Fox as a comic, African American and a friend.
I'm sure the actors on Community would defend the use of the drow cosplay joke for the same reasons and yet somehow the episode in Community is offensive.

Pulling any of these episodes/movies does not change the plight of anyone. It does though lessen our own ability to express ourselves.

Analogies are not literal.
Speech is action, action is speech...
...and the pepperoni pizza in this analogy is actually a gunman shooting people they do not like.

I grew up in Poway, Ca.

Dude, sometimes the pizza comes for you, without being ordered.

If you have never experienced that feeling of being the other, then you truly are privileged and blessed.

Sometimes in D&D, you restrain yourself from dominating an encounter so others can shine.
It is called conscientiously living.

Nothing will protect us from QAnon! It's a storm! That's coming! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

*satire, QAnon is crazy.

Well that's been debated for a long time in psychology. For example, do very violent movies provide relief to people who harbor anger, or do they provide example? It's not easy to tell.

Had a mass shooting here last year, 51 dead. Steamed live on YouTube.

I personally would rather have it out in the open at least you can keep an eye on it. Deutschland Uber Alles types marching down the street are an improvement over the one you can't see.

Same thing in the 20s and 30s are driving it now. Making a big deal about it online is only papering over the cracks.

Might make you feel better and get people to smash that like button it doesn't really change things.

At some point it becomes counter productive. SPLC had a report that it's actually making things worse.
