D&D 5E Weirdest House Rules You've Encountered in the Wild

When I first started playing at the tender age of ten we didn’t understand the premise of memorization. We though you could flick through the PHB and pick what spell you wanted to cast at that point. (We also didn’t distinguish between wizards, Clerics or domains.) The situation was exacerbated by the fact that I didn’t have the PHB just the Tome of Magic. That led to some pretty crazy spell choices!

On the flip side my friends mum who was DMing didn’t get it either and didn’t realize that mummy lords could cast spells. Easiest 8,000 XP we ever got!

That is adorable. I can just picture you guys arguing about whether or not you could cast "sepia snake sigil" because you couldn't remember the full name.

"You know... The one that puts a snake trap on your book? I cast that one."

"What's it called?"

"Come on! Just let me cast it!"

"Nuh-uh. You have to memorize it better."
