Getting rid of those pesky forest squatters

If this were a Western, the big bad rail company/oil baron would divert and dam up the river, or poison the town's livestock.

Which brings up an issue: the railroads made the West, and were made possible by none other than Abe Lincoln. So why in gaming and Hollywood are rail barons evil?

Which perspective? Creating jobs? Producing a renewable resource need to heat homes, cook food, work metal, build housing?
Well, the squatters view what your doing as evil. If i was in this situation I would not care either way. Mostly because i'm incapable of feeling bad.
But what i mean is, it all depends on where you look at this situation.

If we talk about morals here, you ARE ripping away their homes.
Why can't we come with some sort of..... Compromise?
Or we already tried that?

I would ally with some of the local forces, by helping them with their tasks (Like the Necromancers) he could very welll help me "Scare" away the squatters
Think of scooby doo. They used monsters to scare away people, so why not use undead to scare away them?

So ... not really looking for an argument ...

Because it feels more like punching up rather than down? Feels more "heroic" to more people.

And also because the rail barons ... frequently weren't nice people, and tended to deploy business tactics that are nowadays frowned upon, so there's just enough basis in fact for it to be plausible enough to base a fiction around.

The squatters are taking what is not theirs, and they are opposed to the rightful owner making use of his own property. There's no perspective involved.

Why is running a lumber company evil?

The simplest solution is to simply ignore the squatters and harvest the trees. If the squatters offer violence to the legal owner of the timber rights, the law is on the 'evil dude's' (seriously?) side. They are squatters, after all.
Since the OP described it as "darkwood" the possibility that the wood--the harvested product--is itself evil (maybe it's harvested from sapient trees?) came to mind.

You described them as squatters, ergo, people criminally occupying what is not their to occupy. Compromise isn't normally an option in these situations.
