Same argument applies to switching "devil" to "baatezu."
Ehhhhh kind of but not quite? Similar in abstract, but not quite in severity, I would say.

Also, just going to cut this one off at the pass, because I know it’s coming: Yes, you can present orcs in a way that makes them sufficiently different from humans to circumvent these issues. If your orcs are like a malevolent demon fungus or something, calling them inherently evil is probably fine. It’s pretty far removed from what people traditionally think of as orcs, but it’s probably fine.I dunno if "the thread" is muddling it as much as some posters are attempting to ask questions that are at 45-90 degrees from the main discussion. Not unreasonable questions and often ones that flow out of the main discussion but that aren't really part of it.
And Mind Flayers don't, generally, because they're sufficiently different from humans in biology and behaviour that it's averted into purely fantasy realms. Now, there have been some artists who came dangerously close to coding them as Arabic or Chinese in culture by putting clothes on them (and notably - "exotic" clothes), but I haven't seen that for a while.
I don't if it's THAT far removed, since it's pretty much Warhammer orcs. Also, just going to cut this one off at the pass, because I know it’s coming: Yes, you can present orcs in a way that makes them sufficiently different from humans to circumvent these issues. Honestly they should have stuck with Baatezu, because everything that happened that made Demons/Devils interesting, at all, happened in the Baatezu/Taanri-era.Same argument applies to switching "devil" to "baatezu."

Wow wait you made that up lol? I thought that was just a Warhammer ref. That's literally what they are there.Shows how much I know about Warhammer![]()
I didn’t exactly make it up - I had the vague concept of fungal orcs in my head, I’m sure from some combination of references I’ve heard in passing. I just didn’t know Warhammer was where the idea came from.Wow wait you made that up lol? I thought that was just a Warhammer ref. That's literally what they are there.
40K's Orks are an interesting popular take that gives orcs a fairly alien biology and reason for being violent brutes with some comedy.Shows how much I know about Warhammer![]()
