If there were to be a completely new setting, it would need to be something that stretched the boundaries of what D&D can be, at least to the same extent that Dark Sun, Planescape and Eberron did. WotC has plenty of standard fantasy worlds waiting in the docks, no need for another.
This will be controversial, but a setting that bridges steampunk/crystal punk and space D&D , with airships that can fly in space, and breathable space air, and flying space whales. Like Treasure Planet with more magic.

so neo-planetary romance could be done we even have video games in that sort of ballpark.

Hell yeah. Healthy dose of old school space opera, but leave out the sci-fi, and take inspiration more from steampunk, with open decked ships sailing to the moons of our new world and repelling borders with sword and fantasy laser guns before going full Aether sails to outrun the pirate ship.

Just, for the love of all things not terrible, no phlogiston or any of that. Treasure planet’s space with Aether winds and space whales, not a weird model of the Great Wheel.
